As part of its ongoing commitment to health education, the MetLife Foundation underwrites the Health & Fitness area of TeacherSource, including the development of key health education curriculum.

The U.S. Department of Education

Visitors who download the free Educast screensaver can get regular updates on new educational resources from PBS and other educational organizations.

MediaSeek
A leader in correlating educational resources to national and state content standards, MediaSeek provides technology solutions and standards expertise to PBS TeacherSource, allowing site visitors to search TeacherSource's extensive inventory of resources by subject area, grade, and curricular topic, and then correlate search results with available national and state standards.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
PBS collaborates with NCTM to develop and provide the highest quality teacher professional development resources through PBS Mathline. In addition to working together to build Mathline’s extensive professional development service, PBS and NCTM co-produce an annual teleconference on hot topics in mathematics education, in conjunction with the national NCTM meeting.

ThinkQuest
Teachers who have participated in the ThinkQuest competition share their experiences using technology with visitors to PBS TeacherSource. In addition, visitors can explore ThinkQuest features of exemplary online educational materials developed during the competition.

The University of Minnesota
PBS Mathline, the University of Minnesota­Duluth, and local PBS station WDSE team up to provide college credit opportunities for participants in the PBS Mathline professional development experience.

Brenda Bleigh
Brenda Bleigh works at the Title I teacher at Burnsville Elementary School in West Virginia. Over the past five years, Brenda has written and recieved grants totaling over $500,000, and in 1998 she was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship for the state of West Virginia. In 1999, she was named the state award winner in Technology & Learning magazine's annual Teacher of the Year awards program. During the 2000-2001 school year, Brenda will be acting as president of WV TEAMS (Technology, Education and Media Specialists).

Cathy Colwell
Cathy Colwell teaches physics at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. For the past three years, Cathy has worked to develop a Web-based physics curriculum under the auspices of a U.S. Department of Education Technology Challenge Grant. For the past two years, she has sponsored award-winning student research teams in the University of Central Florida's Internet Science and Technology Fair. In 1999, Cathy was honored as a state award winner in Technology & Learning's Teacher of the Year award program.

Steve Crandall
Steve Crandall teaches math at Inverness Middle School in Inverness, Florida. He has received the Inaugural Award for Excellence in K-12 Teaching from the Florida Entomological Society and has been recognized by the Entomological Society of America for his innovative science instruction. Steve is currently working towards National Board Certification, and was honored last spring with the Florida Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching. Steve has also been recognized as one of 18 national semifinalists in the NCTM State Farm "Good Neighbor" award competition. For the past five years, Steve has served as a national listserv moderator for the PBS Mathline professional development service.

Sara Goldhawk
Sara Goldhawk is the Senior Project Associate for the Arts Education Partnership, a private, nonprofit coalition of education, arts, business, philanthropic and government organizations that demonstrates and promotes the essential role of arts education in enabling all students to succeed in school, life and work. It was formed in 1995 through a cooperative agreement between the National Endowment for the Arts, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and CCSSO.

Michael Hutchison
Michael Hutchison teaches social studies at Lincoln High School in Vincennes, Indiana, and at Vincennes University. In 1996, Michael was named a national winner of the 21st Century Teacher competition, recognition which was repeated in 1997. In 1998, Compaq named Michael a first-place prizewinner in its Teacher Lesson Plan contest, and in 1999 Michael was named the Midwest regional winner in Technology & Learning magazine's Teacher of the Year program. In addition, Michael hosts a weekly social studies forum for Tapped In, works as a staff member for ED Oasis, and serves as a faculty member of Connected University.

Cheryl Lemke
Cheryl Lemke is an education technology researcher and speaker. Until last year, she worked at the Milken Exchange on Educational Technology; now she runs the Metiri Group, an independent consulting firm that works with school districts and other organizations to evaluate the impact of computers in the classroom.

Cara Lockett
Cara Lockett works with the National PTA as a regional director for Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Cara led the team that developed the PTA parent involvement training program, "Building Successful Partnerships." She has participated in the U.S. Department of Education's Improving America's Schools conference and served as the president of the Washington state PTA from 1993 to 1995.

Brigitte Magar
Brigitte Magar is the Director of Online Education at Thirteen/WNET, the PBS station based in New York City, where she oversees the production of classroom curricular materials, online courses, and inservice training opportunities for K-12 teachers. Prior to her work at Thirteen, Brigitte worked at the Center for Technology and School Change; taught at Teachers College, Columbia University; and produced the PBS children's program "Storytime" at KCET, Los Angeles.

Shannon McCoy
Shannon McCoy teaches second grade in Jenks, Oklahoma. Her other professional experiences include work as a site technology coordinator in the Jenks school system, an Aurora Peer Facilitator (a technology innovation grant in its fourth year), a member of the NETS writing team, a Web master, and a lead technology trainer. Shannon's second graders work collaboratively with another second grade class in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In 1997, Shannon's colleagues selecter as as Jenks Teacher of the Year, and last year she was selected as the South Regional Winner in Technology & Learning magazine's Teacher of the Year program.

Florence McGinn
Florence McGinn, an English teacher and Pilot Programs Developer at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in New Jersey, was honored as Technology and Learning magazine's 1998 National Teacher of the Year and Princeton University's 1998 Distinguished Secondary School Educator. She currently serves as a U.S. Commissioner on the Congressional Commission for Web-based Education and has been the recipient of grant funding from AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Johnson & Johnson, Libery Science Center, and the Hunterdon Foundation. She has presented widely as keynote, moderator, or guest panelist at events such as Conference 2000 at the invitation of Singapore's Ministry of Education, at NECC, TechSpo, and SchoolTech, for the US Dept. of Education, for the NJ Dept. of Education, for the NJ State School Board, in Beijing, China, and for groups including AT&T, NJASA, PBS, and IBM.

Pat Miller
Pat Miller is the Vice President of Programming, Promotion, and Education at KNPB/Channel 5, the PBS station in Reno, Nevada. Pat has 20 years' experience as a classroom teacher of English, journalism, and humanities courses at the high school, community college, and university levels in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Nevada, and Arizona. She has also served as Executive Director of the Youth Evaluation and Treatment Centers and ASSET, Arizona School Services Through Educational Technology. Pat's prior experience in public television includes work at WVIA, Pittson, Pennsylvania; KAET, Phoenix, Arizona; KUAT, Tucson, Arizona; and KQED, San Francisco, California.

Pete Neal
Pete Neal is the Director of Education at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a prive non-profit corporation created by Congress to receive and distribute the federal appropriation for public broadcasters. Before becoming Director of Education, Pete worked with the Annenberg Project at CPB as the Senior Program Officer, and with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development making video-based professional development programs. Pete has taught at the K-12 level in the U.S. and abroad; at the university level (both in-class and at a distance); and in 1999 he was selected as the Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the University of Malaysia.

Betsy Norris
Betsy Norris teaches sixth grade English in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Betsy has taught at every level K-9 and as an adult educator in GED preparation and computer training. Currently Betsy chairs her school's technology committee, serves on the local community technology committee, co-authors the school Web page, and sponsors the school's computer club. In 1999, Betsy was named the state award winner in Technology & Learning magazine's Teacher of the Year award program, and her school won the National Business Week Award for Instructional Innovation.

Shayne Russell
Shayne Russell is the Educational Media Specialist at Mount Laurel Hartford School, an upper elementary school in Mount Laurel, NJ serving 5th and 6th graders. Shayne is an American Association of School Librarians' KidsConnect volunteer, which involves helping students with research questions via the internet and e-mail, and a member of the AASL ICONnect Task Force. She has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Educational Media Association of New Jersey as the organization's webmaster. In October 1997, Shayne received the EMAnj/Follett Outstanding Media Specialist Award for the state of New Jersey, and in 1999 she was awarded an ICPrize for Collaboration Through Technology.

Judy Terando
Judy Terando is a health and physical education teacher at LaSalle-Peru High School in Peru, Illinois. Terando has been teaching for more than 34 years, and received both her B.A. and M.A. from Illinois State University. She is also the coordinator of a group called "Safe Homes" which is devoted alcohol and drug prevention. In this capacity, she publishes a newsletter at least 4 times a year and keeps in touch with local law enforcement.
