PhysicsLAB Resource Lesson
Hinged Board

A classic demonstration involves positioning a ball on a tee at the end of a pivoted beam so that when a bracing rod is quickly withdrawn the beam's angular acceleration allows the beam to hit the horizontal plane before the freely-falling ball, catching the ball in a cup.

What is the minimum angle that will allow this demonstration to work?
