Refer to the following information for the next ten questions.

During an experiment in which envelopes containing random number of identical cards were massed, one lab group obtained the following EXCEL graph of their data.

1. What quantity was the independent variable in this experiment?

2. Locate two grid points on the graph and state their co-ordinates.

3. Calculate the slope of the line and state its units.

4. Calculate the y-axis intercept for this line.

5. What is the equation of the line?

6. What does the value of y-axis intercept represent in this experiment?

7. The group was then given an unmarked envelope and told to measure its mass. One of the group members took the following picture of the “beams and their counter masses”.

What is the correct reading for this envelope’s mass?

8. According to your equation how many cards should be present in the envelope?

9. If the teacher later informs the group that there were exactly 43 cards in the envelope, what was the group’s percent error for their experiment?

10. Discuss the meaning of their graph’s R2 value equaling 0.9997?
